“It isn’t what happens to people on a page - it’s what happens to a reader in his heart and mind.”
—Gordon Lish
Your first audience will be a reader that has the power to pass on your project. They can recommend the project but not you, they can recommend you as a writer but not your screenplay, or any combination. If the first-level reader doesn’t passionately love your story, chances are it won’t make its way to the desk of a real decision maker.
They'll need to know who the audience is for this film. They'll need to know what kind of budget will be needed to make this film.
They get this from the logline.
So, it’d better be an AMAZING logline & synopsis.
ASSIGNMENT:
Look at the loglines you've created (in lesson 1) and write a few sentences for each sub-bullet point. Send your answers to [email protected]
- Who is the target audience (demographic) for this film?
- What genre is this film? How large is the audience for this genre?
- What separates this film from ALL OTHERS in this genre? (write this down)
- Can the reader get a sense for how much it will cost to film?
