Originality is next to impossible. Find a genre that resonates with you, that you love more than all of the others, and then bring a fresh take to an established formula. Jaws is basically the same story as Jurassic Park, or Alien. It’s just that the players are changed and it’s a different form of the old “monster in the house” genre.
This shouldn’t discourage you or make you cynical.
There really hasn’t been an original idea since before Shakespeare. But if you create a fresh new version, something exciting and different - you’ll be on your way.
